Making yourself a priority when life is filled with so much to do can be daunting. More often than not, our health and fitness is what takes the back seat, even though it should be at the top of the list. We feel worse as the time goes by, but it just feels impossible to change.

In this episode, I’m talking to Professional athlete and mother Timmie Brann. Her mission is to show others that in each of us is an inner athlete that deserves a challenge—and when we push ourselves, we come alive.
We discuss:
How she came into professional sports at a later age.
How obstacle racing connects us back to our inner child.
Why it’s important to see what’s possible for yourself.
What it takes to make that really happen.
How we need to ask for the support we need to prioritize ourselves.
… and more!

Here are some highlights.
Why being an older athlete is so fun
“One of the reasons why I love being in this world is because at our age and at these older ages when those things happen [finishing a race] it's just incredibly rewarding. This reward system never goes away because this feeling of accomplishment still feels so good at this age. And I think it does take us back to childhood in one way or another and in a really, really neat life-changing way.”
Shifting your mindset about exercise
“I love this focus away from an emotionally draining kind of physique to this, ‘I love this machine that I have, this powerful being’ and really doing things that make you realize what you're capable of. I just think that there's so much fulfillment in that and so much reward. And challenge, absolutely. But not so much deprivation or emotionally draining. I think it's a little more risk and reward confidence building.”
Asking for support is ok
“We're all capable, and I think it's asking for what you want. It's also being in charge and saying, ‘I need help with this, or I want to achieve this, and can you help me?’ And saying ‘this is what I need.’ [It’s about] really being an advocate for yourself, which I'm not sure that that is always a priority for a lot of moms. I think there's a lot that maybe take the back seat or don't prioritize, and I would love to see more of a shift in that.”
