Have you ever trained for a race or competitive event only to discover that you’d be facing weather or other extreme conditions on race day? Sometimes the unexpected can happen which can jeopardize all the hard work that you put into getting ready for the event. What do you do in these types of scenarios?
In this episode, Robin talks about preparing for the unexpected on race or competition day, and what you can do to prevent all your hard work from going out the window. She talks about what she has done to prepare for the Spartan World Championships once she learned that she’d likely be facing extreme weather on race day, and what you can do to ensure that your body can perform as you have trained it to do when you are faced with weather or conditions for which you have not been able to prepare. She focuses on three key things:
Do your research - learn about where it is, what the terrain is like and what kind of weather is expected. Check early and check often!
Get the gear you need, knowing that it’s better to overprepare than underprepare.
Do what you need to do to be able to do what you know how to do on race day.
