This week features an interview with Kathrine Switzer, iconic athlete, sports and social advocate, author, and Emmy award-winning television commentator. She's perhaps best known as the first woman to officially enter and run the Boston Marathon fifty years ago this year. She has been honored widely for her achievements, most recently being inducted into the USA National Women’s Hall of Fame for creating positive social change. Her work has forever changed the face of sports, health, and opportunities for women around the world and fearlessly empowering millions beyond the finish line, especially through her non-profit “261® Fearless”.

This week, we talk to 42-year old Karen Porter, a Registered Dietitian and Adaptive Obstacle Racing Athlete and U.S. Army Veteran living in Atlanta, Georgia. This year, she qualified for the pro round of the U.S. OCR Championships, the Spartan Race World Championships as well as the OCR World Championships. She is the only known adaptive athlete to qualify pro for each of these events. She regularly competes against the best of the best in the elite or pro divisions of obstacle course races, and most of her fellow racers have no idea the challenges she faces to compete side by side with them. In this episode, we talk about how an adaptive athlete is defined and what that means for her as an obstacle racer, the role nutrition plays for endurance athletes, and how to live a life with limitations but no limits.

Meet Halee Daily, aka #44 The 4closer, a Roseville, California-based roller derby athlete. She has (knock on wood) played injury-free roller derby since 2009, primarily as a dedicated starting jammer on the Sacred City Derby Girls Sacrificer All-Star Team out of Sacramento. From 2011-2016, she was also Sacred's strategy and jammer coach. She set a team record by playing 56 consecutive Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Association or WFTDA bouts from 2009-2015. This year, she joined the 10th ranked Bay Area Derby All Stars, and competed with them in the WFTDA International Playoffs in Seattle last month.

This week, we talk to Margaret Olawoye, a retired teacher from Chicago, Illinois. She has played, among other sports, softball, racquetball, tennis, basketball, track and field and now pickleball – one of the fastest growing sports, particularly among the senior population. She's in the Chicago 16” softball hall of fame, a Senior Games athlete and a huge sports and fitness advocate. Margaret talks about how she got into sports in a time when organized sports weren't available to girls and tells us how she got into pickleball later in life. Plus, Margaret shares her "anything goes" perspective when it comes to trying a new sport.

This week, get to know our oldest guest to date - 92-year old Dottie Gray from St. Louis, Missouri. Dottie is a National Senior Games athlete and runner with three decades of experience under her belt. She has completed five marathons, including the 100th running of the Boston Marathon, over 35 half marathons and countless 5 and 10K races. At one point in the 1990s, Dottie ran five races over four states in two weeks. And in 2015, she became the first person over 90 to complete a 5,000 meter race. Dottie talks about how she got into sports (in her forties!) and running (in her fifties!), and how living an active life has helped her stay healthy and mobile into her nineties!

Meet 78-year old Daphne Belt of Littlehampton, West Sussex in the United Kingdom. In 2014, she embarked on a mission to run 75 triathlons in 75 days – raising over 6000 pounds for a local childrens charity. In her career, she's earned six long distance world championship age group titles and 28 national age group titles over various distances. In this episode, we talk about how she pulled off completing 75 marathons in 75 days leading up to her 75th birthday, how racing has given her a reason and opportunity to travel the world, and how maintaining an athlete's mindset can help cultivate other non-athletic passions in life.

This week, we talk to 75 year-old DeEtte Sauer, a Houston based wife, mother, grandmother AND nationally ranked swimmer. She has won a total of 57 national medals including golds at both Masters National Championships and National Senior Olympics with a ranking in the U. S. top ten in 98 events and several world top ten rankings. She's also a spokesperson for the National Senior Olympics and a member of the Texas Senior Athletes Hall of Fame. DeEtte talks about how she became a late in life athlete after years of sedentary living, and how swimming has brought her more than the thrill of competition - it has literally saved her life.

This week, we meet 53-year Allison Hunt, a Los Gatos-based rower with the Chinook Performance Racing Team. With her team, she has earned eleven gold medals in the past year alone. When not in the water, Allison is currently Eating for Performance Coach and works with Advocare, a nutritional supplement company. In this interview, Allison candidly talks about how the onset of menopause affected her as an athlete, and how nutrition helped her subsequently reach new heights as an athlete.

This week we meet 42-year old Ginger Huber, an Orlando-based diver in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. She has dedicated her life to diving and have been a non-stop ambassador of the sport, through coaching, training, judging and competing. In this interview, Ginger talks about the near-spontaneous decision that resulted in an invitation to the Red Bull Diving Team, the key strategy that can make the difference between a successful dive and a fall akin to a 60mph car crash, and how she ended up being featured in the famed ESPN Body Issue. 

This week, we talk to our oldest Seasoned Athlete to date: 73-year old Cherie Gruenfeld. Cherie is one of the most decorated Masters Triathletes in the world, having won the Ironman World Championships title in her age group thirteen times earning the F70-74 course record. In this episode, Cherie talks about how she had to create opportunities to play sports at a time when they weren't available to girls and women, how her unstoppable spirit helped her have one of the greatest races of her life, and how her greatest passion may be the work she does helping low-income kids achieve their own bold goals through her Exceeding Expectations Foundation.

This week, we meet speed skater Melissa Koenig. Melissa discovered speed skating first as a spectator.  After watching her son at his speed skating practice when he was just six years old, she realized it was a challenge she wanted to take on, as well. Melissa started speed skating at age 37 and has since skated in multiple national championships and even holds a national record. In this interview, Melissa talks about the challenges of skating against younger competitors, the highs and lows of her athletic journey, and how speed skating has allowed her to develop a unique bond with her now adult son.

In this episode, we meet 25x Ironman Triathlon World Championship competitor Laura Sophiea. Hailing from Atlanta, Laura talks about how she became a triathlete and eventual 9x Ironman World Championship age group title holder. She also discusses how she has been finding her way back after being sidelined with a knee injury, and explains how focusing on nutrition, finding like-minded friends and believing in yourself can help you feel young and strong at any age.

n this episode, we meet Diane Stuart - a retired police chief from Hayward, California and a two-time CrossFit Games master’s athlete in the 50-54 Division.  Diane tells the story of how she discovered a love for Crossfit as a busy police chief and mom and the path she took to become Crossfit Games Masters competitor. She also speaks about the devastating news that rocked her to her core before eventually creating a fire and a greater purpose, setting her on the road to a Crossfit Games Masters Podium.  

Episode 003 features a conversation with open water marathon swimmer Pat Gallant-Charette. Pat talks about her astonishing journey that took her from being a 46-year old spectator mom to becoming a world record holder who has conquered some of the most difficult open water swims on the planet. Pat lives the belief that you're never too old to try something new, and twenty years after she took her first open water swim, she's continuing to bust boundaries and break records.
